Julia Ross

Julia Ross is a doctoral candidate at the University of South Carolina, where she serves as a graduate assistant and performs with the USC Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and Palmetto Pans Steel Band. Equally at home in classical and contemporary settings, Julia’s strength as an ensemble musician enables consistent collaboration with orchestras, chamber groups, and theater companies throughout the eastern United States. She regularly appears with the South Carolina Philharmonic and the orchestras of Aiken, Florence, and Rock Hill, SC. Julia spent summers at the National Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and School, and Pierre Monteux School, and was a semifinalist in the 2023 Great Plains International Marimba Competition.

A native of Syracuse, NY, Julia holds degrees from Ithaca College (BM) and Indiana University (MM). She is honored to count among her teachers Scott Herring, Tom Freer, John Tafoya, Kevin Bobo, and Gordon Stout. Julia’s musical endeavors are complemented by her love for reading, travel, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and following current political affairs. She will gladly share pictures and anecdotes of her Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Jackson, with anyone who asks.
